Every tree on your property carries some level of risk — but which ones are actually dangerous? Our certified tree risk assessments identify structural weaknesses, disease, and failure potential before a tree becomes a hazard to your home, family, or neighbors.

Safety First
Tree cutting is one of the most dangerous jobs in the country — and it's not something you want to trust to an unlicensed crew with a pickup truck and a chainsaw. Improper tree cutting causes property damage, personal injury, and death every year in Texas.
At 3 Monkeys Tree Service, every tree cutting job starts with a detailed plan. Our crew leaders assess the tree's lean, weight distribution, surrounding obstacles, overhead power lines, and ground conditions before making a single cut. We use strategic notch-and-back cuts, rigging systems, and — when necessary — crane-assisted removal to bring trees down safely in controlled sections.
We cut trees of all sizes across San Antonio, from backyard pecan trees that have outgrown their space to towering oaks along commercial roadways.

When to Act
Not every tree needs to come down, and we'll always tell you if a tree can be saved through trimming, cabling, or treatment. But some situations call for cutting. Common reasons San Antonio property owners need tree cutting include dead or dying trees that pose a falling hazard, trees with severe structural defects like split trunks or major decay, trees infected with oak wilt or other untreatable diseases, root systems damaging foundations, driveways, or sewer lines, and trees that have grown too large for their location.
Storm-damaged trees are another frequent reason for emergency cutting. After severe weather events — which San Antonio sees regularly during spring and fall — we prioritize trees that are leaning on structures, blocking roads, or hanging over occupied areas.

Our Method
For straightforward removals, we typically fell the tree in one piece into an open area, then buck the trunk and limbs for removal. For trees near structures, fences, or power lines, we use sectional cutting — climbing the tree (or using a bucket truck) and removing it in pieces from the top down, lowering each section with ropes and rigging to protect the area below.
On very large or complex jobs, we bring in a crane to lift sections out. This is common for large trees in tight backyards with limited access, or for trees that are too unstable to climb safely.
After the tree is down, we process all wood and brush on-site. We can cut firewood-length rounds if you want to keep the wood, or we haul everything away and leave the site clean. Stump grinding is available as an add-on if you want the stump removed the same day.

Development
If you're developing a residential lot, building an addition, or installing a pool in San Antonio, tree cutting is often part of the site preparation process. We work with general contractors, homebuilders, and property owners to clear specific trees while preserving the ones you want to keep. For larger projects, check out our lot clearing and land clearing services.
We also provide selective tree cutting for view clearing, sunlight improvement, and defensible space around structures in wildfire-prone areas on the northern edge of the city near the Hill Country.
