Leon Valley is an incorporated city surrounded by San Antonio in northwestern Bexar County, and it makes its own tree rules, so a protected tree question goes to the City of Leon Valley. The area mixes residential streets with commercial frontage, which changes the job: commercial work often has to happen outside business hours and around parking and signage, while the residential side is standard removal and trimming on established lots.
Every storm season we clear the same kinds of failure: heavy lateral limbs that had grown too long for their attachment, and stems that forked low and were never corrected. Both are structural problems with a fair weather solution. Waiting until the limb is on the roof turns a trimming job into an emergency removal and an insurance claim.
Trees growing into utility conductors are not a tree company job at any price, and a contractor willing to take one on is a contractor to avoid. Where the conflict is with the primary line, the utility handles it, generally at no cost to you. Where it is your service drop or a limb approaching one, we can plan the work safely.
After a dry stretch, expect to see dieback in the upper canopy and along the ends of limbs. Those dead sections do not recover and they do not hold. They also invite secondary problems, since stressed trees are far more vulnerable to the canker fungi and borers that healthy trees shrug off. Removing dead material is the first step in either saving a tree or deciding it cannot be saved.
Work near a structure changes the method. Limbs over a roof come off in pieces small enough to control by hand. Sections near a fence line get roped rather than dropped. The slow version of the job is the cheap version once you account for what a dropped limb costs.
The estimate covers what we can see. If a tree turns out to be hollow once it is opened up, the method may have to change, and we stop and talk to you rather than pressing on and adding to the bill afterward.
Leon Valley properties get the full list. emergency tree removal runs 24 hours, storm damage cleanup clears what the weather left, and dead wood removal takes the failed limbs off a tree that is otherwise sound. Stumps come out under stump grinding.
The service line running to your house and the high voltage line on the poles are different situations. We can work around the first. The second is not a tree company job at any price, and anyone willing to do it is someone to avoid.
We do not leave a pile behind. A quote that looks cheap and then leaves you to deal with a yard full of wood is not actually cheap, so ours includes the removal of what comes down.
Grinding is a different machine and a separate line on the quote. Most people have it done at the same visit, which is cheaper than bringing the grinder back later as its own call out.
Ask your municipality before the crew is booked. We would rather delay a job by a few days than have you cited for removing something that turned out to be protected.
My husband and I couldn’t be happier with the makeover our trees received. We chose the perfect company, and the entire experience was wonderful from start to finish. The team was friendly, professional, and did an excellent job. We’d gladly return because of their outstanding service and the care they put into their work. Highly recommended.
Wonderfully professional and detail oriented. I definarly recommend 3 Monkeys Tree Service!
LOVED THEM! Super quick, friendly, and did what they promised. I almost wish I had more trees for them to fix. They trimmed the crazy one in the back, and took out one that was starting to grow under the driveway and break the concrete. Can't even tell it was there. 100% would use these guys again.
They were great! Came out the very next day. It was such a tall tree. Did an awesome job. They surpassed my expectations. I will absolutely be using them again.
3 monkeys tree service was amazing. They were on time and did a great job and when they left the area was completely clean up. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who is looking for a great company with wonderful employees.
On time. Very professional, large crew. Everything was trimmed and clean. Trees won’t need cleaning up for a while but i would hire this team again in a heartbeat.
